PRODUCT SOLUTION: TVM Bubble Barrier Foil

  • Method 1 - Rim Joist North/South Elevation, Barrier rFoil (1220-16-125) 16" Width
  • Method 2 - Rim Joist East/West Elevation, Barrier rFoil (1220-48-125) 48" Width

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

  • Bubble Barrier rFoil is 96% reflective, very puncture resistant and easy to apply.

PRODUCT EFFECTIVENESS:

  • As of this printing, TVM is conducting ASTM testing for R-14 and R-21 crawlspace assemblies, to completed in January 2002 for use within Title 24 calculation. For calculated assemblies of R-6 through R-22 by David Yarbrough, PhD, PE, please call (510) 548-1377.

INSTALLATION METHOD:

  • 1) Don't use any fibrous insulation between joists, only under rFoil, as required.
  • 2) Staple Bubble Barrier rFoil from the upper part of the rim joint to the bottom of the sill plate, as in N/S elevation. Use a 16" material (illustration #1).
  • 3) Unroll & staple 48" wide Bubble Barrier rFoil under the floor joists. Be sure to seal it well around the perimeter (illustration #2).
  • 4) Seal the joints and perimeter using rFoil regular foil tape 3" Wide (04603).


BUILDER'S NOTE FOR A HIGHER R VALUE:

  • 1) Install a wood strapping over the Bubble Barrier rFoil perpendicular to the joists.
  • 2) Nail the rigid installation following the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure the air space between the rFoil and the rigid insulation is well sealed.
  • * All tape should be applied using a flat-edge taping tool to ensure good adhersion.
